Professor Julius Namasake Wandabwa is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a former Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Makerere and Busitema University. He is a former Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Busitema University and has chaired higher degree committees at Walter Sisulu and Busitema University.
He has served as a site principal investigator on studies involving a novel device for the management of hypertension in pregnancy in low-resource settings and the Bay Gel study, and is a co-principal investigator on a Wellcome Leap grant. He has trained in systematic reviews and contributed to Cochrane reviews with Liverpool University Women’s Hospital, focusing on mechanical and surgical management of postpartum haemorrhage. He has also been involved in implementing maternal health research in Eastern Uganda and is a trainer on the ETOO course supported by ACOG.
He has participated as a co-investigator in the Baby Gel cluster randomized trial and is currently a co-principal investigator on studies of acute kidney injury in preeclampsia at Mulago and Mbale Hospitals. He is also involved in piloting the Moyo device for intrapartum foetal monitoring and a funded study on predictors of heavy menstrual bleeding. He has supervised PhD and Master’s students and serves as an external examiner for Makerere, Gulu, and Walter Sisulu University.
