Dr. Ochieng John Paul is a Ugandan specialist anesthesiologist and academic clinician with advanced training in anesthesia and critical care, and demonstrated leadership in clinical service delivery, medical education, and multicenter health systems research in low and middle income country settings.
He is a Lecturer and Acting Head of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at Busitema University and a honorary anesthesiologist at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
His research portfolio includes roles as country lead investigator, co principal investigator, and site lead on nationally and internationally funded studies addressing perioperative outcomes, critical illness, workforce development, and implementation of essential emergency and critical care.
He has contributed to multiple high impact peer reviewed publications, including work published in The Lancet, The Lancet Global Health, and the British Journal of Anesthesia.
Dr. Ochieng has a strong track record in postgraduate supervision, faculty development, simulation based education, and regional clinical network coordination, with several academic and professional awards recognizing excellence in teaching and leadership.
His work is grounded in collaborative partnerships and aims to generate scalable, policy relevant evidence to strengthen perioperative and critical care systems in resource constrained settings.
