Mr. Marcel Engiro is a Water Resources Engineer, tutor and researcher at Busitema University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Water Resources Engineering, awarded with Second Class Honours, Upper Division, from Busitema University in July 2023. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering at the University.
His postgraduate research focuses on the design and comparison of a terrain-adaptive flow-direction algorithm using hydrodynamic validation, with testing conducted on regular, flat and hexagonal terrains. His broader professional interests include water resources engineering, irrigation and drainage, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing and sustainable water management.
At Busitema University, Mr. Engiro contributes to teaching, research grant writing, development of research proposals and manuscripts, and the preparation of online courses. He supports teaching in areas including Foundation Engineering, GIS and Remote Sensing, Circuit Theory, Advanced Wastewater Treatment and Design of Steel Structures. He also participates in setting, invigilating and marking assignments, coursework and examinations.
His professional experience extends to engineering consultancy and field implementation. From August 2024 to December 2025, he worked as an Engineer at Akvo International Limited, where he conducted site assessments, participated in engineering design, prepared bills of quantities and supported the implementation of irrigation schemes. His field experience includes work associated with the design phase of the Angololo Multipurpose Dam project under the Nile Basin Initiative, restoration of the River Malaba floodplains, design and installation of the Amagoro Irrigation Scheme, and bridge construction works involving the Kibimba, Sironko and Chololo bridges.
Mr. Engiro also has experience in student leadership and civic engagement. He served as the 13th Guild President of Busitema University during the 2021/2022 academic year, representing students in various University fora, including the University Council and committees of Council. He also served as a Millennium Fellowship Campus Director for the Class of 2022 and is a graduate of the Programme for Young Politicians in Africa (PYPA).
His technical skills include GIS analysis, HY-8, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPANET and AutoCAD, as well as basic programming skills in Python and SQL. He also holds a certificate in Cloud Computing from the Huawei Training Institute.
