Biography

Prof. Titus Bitek Watmon works at the faculty of Engineering and Technology, Busitema University. He holds a PhD in Mechanical & Manufacturing engineering from the university of East London-UK. He studied Master of Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Brunel University (UK). Watmon has a very rich exprience in Mechanical Engineering field having worked with verious international and national organizations. He worked at two steel processing plants in the UK for 5 years, after his MSc he joined Tube Products in Oldbury, Birmingham UK as quality Engineer with assignment to improve through yields on the production Lines which he successfully did and managed to improve the Yield by 60% which is a representation of £7,000.00 (seven Thousand pounds) per month on Raw Materials. He later moved to Europressings Limited in Cardiff, Wales as the Project Engineer at the turn of the millennium; as part of his main project, he designed and set up Acoustic emission condition monitoring systems on Press Line to monitor faults in real-time to detect; broken springs within the tooling, cracked Die, Debris on parts etc.

Between January 2000 –2001 December Watmon worked at Cardiff School of Engineering, Queen’s Building, Newport Road as a research Associate on Teaching Company Scheme. He later joined the department of Mechanical & Production Engineering at Kyambogo University in 2004 where he served for 17 years. Besides lecturing, he had other assignments such as; the Undergraduate project coordinator, Examination coordinator and finally head of the department of Mechanical & Production Engineering, a position he held for seven years. In 2018, Watmon was awarded World Bank Grant of US $80.423.28 to provide specialised Training to Shopfloor workers at Steel & Tube Industries Limited-Uganda. Steel and Tube specialises in the production of Roofing Iron sheets, Angle Bars, Hollow (Round and Square) Sections and different types and sizes of Wire-Nails

Watmon received employer award and recognitions for contributions to Kyambogo University as one of the best performing head of department in the year 2015. He provides consultancy services to National Council for Higher Education(NCHE) for reviewing proposal for engineering programmes and has reviewed upto eighty (100plus) academic programmes from different Institutions within the country.
He has published extensively in Journals and at conferences including a textbook entitled Metal Cutting: Performance Characteristics of a Surface Modified Tool. ISBN:978-3-659-95713-0 and EAN: 9783659957130
