Dr. Rose Chalo Nabirye is a Registered Nurse/Midwife (BSN) with an Advanced Diploma in Health Services Management, a Masters of Public Health (MPH) and a PhD (Nursing). A former Head of Department of Nursing and Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Makerere College of Health Sciences, she is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences at Busitema University. Dr. Nabirye was a Clinical Nurse/Midwife in various units including the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, which deals with Reproductive Health in Mulago National Referral and Teaching Hospital in Uganda for over 20 years. She also served as Manager in Masaka district from 2000 to 2003 under the Early Childhood Development Project (NECDP), a national programme, which enabled her gain experience working with communities and local governments. Since joining academia in 2003, Dr. Nabirye has interested herself and actively engaged in research about nursing and midwifery education. She has worked as a nursing and midwifery curricula reviewer since 2014 under National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in collaboration with Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council (UNMC). Her training and experience as a Nurse/Midwife in various positions has enabled her gain managerial skills, working in interdisciplinary teams and with communities. In addition, she has previously served on several Boards/Governing Councils including Mulago Health Tutors College, Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery, Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and Peace Corps Uganda Project Advisory Committee and Seed Global Advisory Board since 2017. She is a Council member of the African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth), a Fellow of the Uganda Academy of Sciences (UNAS) and has been a member of the Uganda Nursing Now Campaign National Steering Committee. Her current efforts as a Council member of African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth) since its inception in 2016 is building capacity of health professionals. She is currently the chair of the Student Advisory Committee (SAC) which guides all health professional students in matters of professional growth.
